YouthAIDS

Child Cause is proud to support YouthAIDS, our official charity beneficiary, by donating all proceeds from our YouthAIDS fundraising events to their HIV/AIDS programs.

YouthAIDS, an education and prevention program of PSI, uses media, pop culture, music, theatre and sports to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and reach 600 million young prople in more than 60 countries with life-saving messages, products, services and care.

HIV/AIDS FACTS:

- AIDS kills one child every minute. 
- 15 million children around the world have been orphaned by AIDS, losing one or more parents to the disease. 
Every day, over 7,400 people become infected with HIV, almost five people each minute. 
Fifty percent of those newly infected with HIV today are between the ages of 15 and 24. 
A total of 33.4 million people were living with HIV in 2008.  
Every 9 1/2 minutes someone in the U.S. is infected with HIV.
  

CHILDREN OF ADDICTED PARENTS:

- More than 28 million children in America live with a parent who is an alcoholic.  
- Nearly 11 million are under the age of 18.
- Children of addicted parents are the highest risk group of children to become alcohol and drug abusers due to both genetic and family environment factors.
- Each year, approximately 11,900 infants are abandoned at birth or are kept at hospitals, 78% of whom are drug-exposed, the average daily cost for each of these babies is $460.18.
 
- Substance abuse costs the United States over $484 bill
ion each year.  It is the #1 Health Risk in America.
- 1 in 4 Americans is directly impacted by addiction.
